Fancy Rats For Adoption
Rats are amazing and loving 'pocket pets' who end up in shelters just like any other animal. Looking for some short term commitment, a foodie friend, or someone to veg out and watch TV with? You've come to the right place!
Here you will find some amazing rats for adoption, all looking for loving homes.
If babies are listed, they are available for reservation starting at 4 weeks old but cannot go home until at least 5 weeks old. Babies are typically born from mothers we have rescued after they were found to be pregnant.
Colors and sex will not be available until at least one week old.

Click on their photo to apply and to see when they will be ready to go home.

*All rats must be adopted in same sex pairs. If you would like to adopt two of the opposite sex, then we require them to be altered before you take them home.
If the rat is altered prior to your request, then the cost is the same as an unaltered rat.

These rescued rats listed below are not accepting applications just yet. Check back daily!

If you want to be notified when we have more rats, you can use the notify me button below. Please put " (male/female) rats" as the answer to the "Which animal are you interested in" line. You can also specify a number of rats, if you have a preference. If we know adopters are available, then we can rescue more rats. Please note that you will only be notified once, when the rats arrive. If you want to be placed back on the list for the next rats, you will need to fill out another "notify me" application.
Adoption Price List

Specialty- This is an animal characteristic of certain breeds or other traits highly sought out by adopters.

Extraordinary- This is an animal typically of pure breed or bloodline.

Altered- This attribute is listed on animals we don't typically have sterilized prior to adoption. This attribute will never reflect on a cat or dog profile. If an animal (not including a dog or cat) is sterilized prior to request, the price will fall under the age-related category.

Note: We do not, and will not, breed test any of our animals. These animals are meant to be adopted family members and, as such, do not require a bloodline to love you unconditionally. Our animals are worth every penny. Feel free to ask for references.

Why adopt a rat
There are many reasons to consider adopting a pet rat to add to your family! Here are just a few:

-
Rats are intelligent. They are easily trained to do tricks, to come when called and to even use a litter box.
-
Rats are clean. Contrary to popular myth, rats are very clean animals and groom themselves multiple times a day. Rats prefer to live in a clean habitat and they do not have a naturally strong or offensive odor.
-
Rats have personality. Ask any rat guardian and they will tell you their rat has a distinct and unique personality just like we do! No two rats behave exactly the same way…even two siblings that grew up together are totally different. One may be outgoing and mischievous while the other is more shy and subdued. Some rats are very busy and curious while others are more calm and lazy…just like us!
-
Rats are affectionate. Rats are naturally social creatures and are happiest with companionship. Rats quickly learn to trust us and bond with us and they want to be around us. Just walk by a rat’s cage in the evening when they are awake and you’ll be greeted by a pair of little paws on the door and a pink nose pushing through the bars to come out. Rats enjoy our company and look forward to interacting with us.
Rats typically live between 2 – 3 years and will require basic veterinary care and check ups. There are a few common health problems that rats develop so make sure you have a “rat knowledgeable” vet before adopting pet rats. Rats are naturally social so they should always be adopted in at least pairs. Because rats are so intelligent, they do require daily stimulation and interaction with us and should not be left alone in their cage for days at a time. Did you know that rats can actually become depressed if ignored and not given an adequate amount of playtime outside of the cage? Please take a few minutes to read this Rat Care Sheet and learn all about the proper habitat for rats, good nutrition, safe bedding, and lots of other important information before deciding if pet rats are the right match for you! This handy link is useful for seeing if your cage is big enough for your rats. Also, the chart below shows some body language of your rat so that you can understand them even better!

Adoption FAQs
In an effort to save lives and lessen the euthanasia impact in our county, A HOPE provides a rehabilitation and lifesaving program. Animals in this program are usually too young or too sick to survive in their current environment. A HOPE takes these vulnerable animals and places them into a foster home until they are eligible for either rescue or adoption. While most rehabilitated animals are placed in a rescue, others stay to be adopted out through us. All adoptable cats and dogs include spay/neuter, microchip, and up-to-date vaccinations.
